Is lead in books dangerous?

To the best of anyone’s knowledge, no child has ever been poisoned by lead in a book.  First, in order to absorb the lead from the book, the child would have to eat the book.  Second, because the quantities of lead in a book are so small, the child would have to eat at minimum several dozen books at one sitting in order to absorb enough lead to make a detectable change.  Because the possibility of lead poisoning from books is so remote, ordinary books have never been regulated as a consumer product before CPSIA.
