How does CPSIA affect the environment?

Because CPSIA does not allow businesses to get rid of many products in any way other than destroying them, many perfectly safe products will end up in landfills instead of being used, merely because they lack documentation proving they’re safe.

CPSIA’s testing requirements make it impossible for home crafters to “upcycle” or repurpose things into one-of-a-kind items for children, because the testing CPSIA requires will destroy the item.

Finally, CPSIA’s ban on certain phthalates means that new substances are being used as plasticizers.  The effects of these new plasticizers are unknown.
