I ship products from Canada, how am I affected by CPSIA?
All products imported into the United States have to meet CPSIA standards, regardless of their country of origin. If you ship products from Canada directly to consumers in the United States, you will have to make sure you have complied with CPSIA.
It is the importer who is responsible for making sure that foreign products meet the CPSIA regs.
Yes, the importer is responsible for ensuring compliance if someone is selling wholesale into the United States. For those people (artists and crafters) who sell directly to the consumer, they are responsible for making sure their products comply with CPSIA.
This is true. However, the products will still have to meet the standards, or else they can’t be imported at all.
Many Canadian businesses rely on either suppliers or markets in the U.S. and they need to be aware of CPSIA standards. If a Canadian business imports stuff wholesale into the U.S., the importer is indeed responsible for CPSIA compliance. But a Canadian business shipping retail products directly to customers in the U.S. *is* responsible for CPSIA compliance.
Thanks for sharing this I’ve been wanting to find out the answer to it.
I live in Asia and sell baby products here in my country. I have actually started testing for our products locally in an accredited lab and will get results next week. After which, I’m not sure what happens.
