Is it true my yard sale might be illegal?

If you sell children’s products at your yard sale, you may run afoul of CPSIA.  CPSIA requires that the children’s products that are sold anywhere by anyone, not just at a business or by a businessperson, comply with the lead levels and safety standards.

Why does CPSIA affect more than just toys?

CPSIA requirements apply to all “children’s products” that are regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).  “Children’s products” according to the CPSIA law means anything that is marketed to or for children under 12 that isn’t already covered by another agency.
